Belfast

A film of awfully bland digital black and white cinematography, nail-scratching-on-chalkboards performances across the board (Jamie Dornan is almost an exception), soundtrack choices there for no reason other than they fit the time period, etc. A ‘political’ film for the apolitical. Similar to Wes Anderson at times but far worse. Relies more so on the good art of others (herein are riffs on Cinema Paradiso, Roma and Ivan the Terrible Pt 2, and direct scenes taken from A Christmas Carol, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, High Noon, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance and more!). Really, really awful.
