Highly affecting in mostly quiet fashion, and Cuaron’s mastery of filmmaking is evident throughout. But his tendency to telegraph big dramatic moments and use of sometimes too obvious symbolism are minuses. Still a very worthwhile and valuable paean to the strength of women.
