Michael’s review published on Letterboxd:
I went into the film not watching any trailers, only knowing slightly what the premise of the story was. From that opening scene between Juan and the drug dealer, I knew I was in for something special.
All three acts felt very well-paced, none of them felt like they were dragging on. I was surprised how well all three actors who played the main character, Chiron, embodied one another, having Chiron's demeanor and mannerisms carry over during each time skip. Speaking of, none of the performances, no matter whether they were large or small, felt particularly weak.
As far as directing goes, I think Barry Jenkins knocked it out of the park. The way he crafts this film feels very refreshing, different from most films released today.
Moonlight is an incredibly well made film, it truly feels like a piece of art.
