From Dusk Till Dawn

From Dusk Till Dawn ★★★★½

Another one I can’t believe it’s taken me so long to finally see was crossed off the list last night. This is an A+ “B-Movie”.

The opening scene was fantastic in classic Tarantino fashion. The movie never slows down at all — probably because it’s Robert Rodriguez directing from a Tarantino script, so we get all the great dialogue and unexpected violence, but it still clocks in at just a little over and hour and a half, which is the perfect pace and length for a movie like this.

It delivers on all of the genre expectations in fantastic fashion — lots of blood, nudity, swearing. The only issue was that when the genre shift happens around the half way mark, it tends to get a bit too goofy. Like either Tarantino or Rodriguez couldn’t help themselves by indulging in the ridiculousness rather than keeping it all (relatively) realistic for the big finale of Vampire vs. Humans. I’m also not the biggest fan of seeing Tarantino act in his movies, but he ended up being better in this role than I thought he would. Still prob not the best choice for the role, but it’s an okay performance.

Great movie though, I’m sure I’ll be watching again.
