Ryan Conde’s review published on Letterboxd:
What can I say? It's a David Fincher film and of course, it's amazing. The story had me invested the whole way through, the cinematography is amazing, the musical score is fantastic, the editing is brilliant, the direction is great, there are some very disturbing and suspenseful moments, and the performances are just stellar from everyone especially from Jake Gyllenhaal, Robert Downey Jr., and Mark Ruffalo who all give such fantastic performances but the rest of the cast still does a great job. If I did have to nitpick anything with the film though it would have to be with the length. While watching the film even though I was very invested it is hard to not feel the 157-minute running time but other than that I can't think of anything else wrong with this film. This is just an example of a mystery thriller film done completely right and while it's a shame that it flopped when it came out back in 2007 I am glad that it is getting the attention that it rightfully deserves. If you're a fan of David Fincher's work or if you want to see a mystery film that keeps you invested from beginning to end then you will really love this film.
