Kong: Skull Island

Kong: Skull Island ★★★½

Another film that is the definition of a popcorn action movie that is very entertaining from beginning to end. I'll get the problems out of the way first before I really only have two with the whole movie but they are pretty big ones. The story itself is pretty predictable and formulaic and most of the characters are very underdeveloped or just there. That is an issue because whenever a character dies in this film it doesn't leave an impact mainly because most of the characters aren't that interesting or that developed. They aren't dislikable but not amazing and that is the main reason why I can't call this film great. However, the movie makes up for it with a lot of positive qualities. The cinematography is fantastic, the musical score and soundtrack are good, the direction is great, the few humor can get some decent laughs, the editing is solid, the characters that are likable are pretty entertaining like John C Reily's character who is probably the best one out of the whole movie, the visual effects are stunning and look fantastic especially Kong who just like in Peter Jackson's film looks phenomenal and is intimidating as hell, there is some truly creepy and disturbing imagery that brings out some amazing eye candy, the action scenes are filled with carnage, are really intense and so much fun to watch, and the performances are really good from everyone with a fantastic cast to support the kind of weak characters. Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L. Jackson, Brie Larson, John Goodman, John C. Reily, and the whole entire cast really make this movie a lot of fun to watch along with the beautiful visuals and amazing action. While the movie does suffer from a pretty predictable story and weak characters it still delivered so much entertainment that I can kind of forgive those issues. I'll still prefer the original King Kong and the Peter Jackson one a bit more than this objectively but out of all of them, this is easily the most fun out of all of them. If you enjoyed the previous King Kong movies or just looking for a really fun popcorn action flick just like the 2014 Godzilla movie but actually shows a lot more of the title character then you will have a great time with this film.
