Horse Girl

Horse Girl ★★★½

Alison Brie is excellent as Sarah, a slightly odd, socially awkward young woman - the kind of person people shy away from. She's friendly enough, and good looking enough, but there is just something about her that is on an entirely different wavelength - and that makes people give her the cold shoulder. The film is at its best in Brie's poignant portrayal of that kind of person.

Clone, alien abductee, time traveler? Who is this person who is obsessed with a horse that does not belong to her? Is she a woman from the past, caught in a time warp, the experiment of some ancient aliens? Most likely, all that is intended as metaphor for Sarah's descent into depression or psychosis. Can Sarah acknowledge and deal with her serious problem, or will it overwhelm her and swallow her up?
