Double Indemnity

Double Indemnity ★★★★

I’d forgotten how many motifs there are in this movie, from Walter lighting Keyes’ cigars in what seems like every scene they’re in together, to “the fates,” and the trolley car headed for the cemetery and of course “straight down the line.”  And with at least two of these, most explicitly the matches, the movie even calls out the repetition or asks us to “remember.” It gives you a lot to think about and wants to make sure you’re paying attention, now I just have to go find my old paper about what the doorways mean and see if I was right.
