High and Low 1963
Definitely my favourite Kurosawa and one of my favourites and it's only my second Kurosawa. This man manages to control the expectations of what will happen next and elevates to the next level of whodunit. Extraordinary vision with a engaging story, High and Low separates the class difference, twisting and mastering a generic story that has been done several times. The shots, the acting and the frame are very immersing and absorbing. I gain a lot from this with the balance of tension and excellent themes portrayal. Kurosawa is indeed a creative genius who will never be surpassed by others in the future.
