Blonde 2022
i'm reminded of a well-known quote from irish novelist james joyce in his book ulysses stating,
“history is a nightmare from which i’m trying to awake”
which reminded me after a horrifying scene of norma waking up in blood (or was it?),
“christ, what an ugly dream”.
i think both quotes perfectly illustrate what blonde is about or at least going for ; a nightmare consuming one’s own being whichever force that may be stemming from.

the symbolic nature of the wizard of oz, and the several distinct details swarming around it, is not only something resorting in fiction stories/films for children but also operates in more “adult” films through dream logic - tapping and playing with our perceptions and subconscious. watching this as an adult reminds me of being a kid discovering the fantasy and story of the wizard of oz for the first time - but mostly the story. that feeling of wandering. the…
