The characters don't at all react to events way I'd actually believe attentive teenagers would react to things. I would say they need to be stupid and gullible for the plot but it totally defuses all the tension when you're constantly shaming the characters for being so stupid and gullible. The film is so uncommitted to its emotional backstory that I think it should've avoided the soul entirely and gone for pure 100% pulp. Those moments happen but the violence behind them feels so flimsy when nothing is done to lead into it.
