I don't know what's scarier: The fact that everyone in this kingdom wants to run a sword through my heart or that sometimes I just wanna let 'em.

I think it comes to no one's surprise that Shapeshifters and their struggles fundamentally resonate with me as a trans person.

But beyond that, the story, the characters, and their relations are incredibly well executed, resulting in an entertaining film full of heart and charm. Personally, I would have preferred a rougher…

    ~~ Theatrical PG-13 Cut ~~

When I heard that Rebel Moon was getting a limited theatrical release in glorious 70mm, I knew I had to go. I booked a two-day trip to London without hesitation, despite being knee-deep in my university finals. It was the first time since 2016's Batman v Superman that I'd been able to see a Snyder film in cinemas (excluding private screenings, of course). Snyder, and Batman v Superman in particular, made me fall in love…

Gareth Edwards' sci-fi epic left me indifferent and even bored at times. What seems to be an interesting allegory for the Vietnam War turns out to be not that interesting or meaningful. The film has not much to say about AI or anything else for that matter. There's hardly any plot, and when there is, you've seen it coming from miles away. Still, I applaud this movie for being something new and director-driven in a day and age of sequels…

The film is too caught up in its concepts and loses itself in them. In combination with the cynical and artificial approach, it's not as (thought) provoking as it would like to be.

I was not at all prepared for such a captivating, stressful, and anxiety inducing film. In fact, I anticipated this one to be the weakest in this year's Best International Feature category at the Oscars. And even though it might not win against its competition, this is still a very strong film.
Great performances throughout, especially the kids, backed up with a simple yet effective score and clean cinematography.
