Phil Alexander’s review published on Letterboxd:
A weird mixture of fun kills and preposterous moments. Freddy finally goes full One Liner Mode (after drowning someone in a water bed, he exclaims “talk about a wet dream” haha). Some of this is hilarious and great, others - like a horribly conceived Japanese temple karate scene - are total misfires.
It’s fun enough and visually interesting enough to maintain interest. The cinematography is hilariously good; a throwaway sequel from this era still looks 100x more elegant than most art house releases in recent years. It’s beautifully lit.
Certainly a lesser entry, but like just about every title in this series, it’s mostly still entertaining.
I’m giving it an extra boost, score-wise, because there’s some gnarly imagery in this film, especially towards the end. It’s gross and I loved it.
