every time i watch this i learn something new about these characters, the performances just go against everything a movie like this should be and are just very quiet and introverted, every little stutter or movement by an actor feels meditated to let us more into who these people are without blatantly telling us. like we see chiron in the last act slowly start to lose the trapper persona he's put on for a decade when he's around kevin, turning back into that fearful teenager that he'd thought he'd left behind. or for a character like juan who love chiron deeply but has to sell crack to his mother for a living even though he knows that's what's fucking chiron up and we see that conflict in his face. seeing beale street later today but man, jenkins could pretty much retire after giving us this, anything else we get is just extra toppings.
