Last Night in Soho ★★★★★

If it may not be Wright’s deepest film, losing itself just slightly in its themes, but it’s a visual marvel and musical spectacle, that made for easily my best theater experience since the pandemic. It’s loud, it’s gorgeous, colourful, violent and scary. It’s an incredible hommage to Giallo and the swinging 60s made vessel to an admittedly unsubtle but nonetheless effective critique of the poor treatment of women in the entertainment community, and everywhere else.
Sensational, Thomasin McKenzie delivers my second favourite performance of the year and becomes my favourite actress. She will rule the world, her long career is only just beginning. Anya-Taylor Joy is hypnotising as always.
It’s also probably Wright’s greatest soundtrack effort, and that’s saying a LOT
