oh WOW this movie is unbelievable! first hour is basically in one location and incredible--love the way that characters are framed in exaggerated poses. then they get on the train and the world expands and somehow it gets better?? like the investigation is so thrilling and i loved the brief scene with the train guys. also the last twenty minutes are just kurosawa flexing and they are magnificent.
i know i know i just finished it so recency bias is fully in effect but honestly it might be kurosawa's best? certainly immediately in contention for my favorite and also the one i would most readily rewatch -
