Portrait of a Lady on Fire

Portrait of a Lady on Fire ★★★★

with something akin to magic, we see what was there from the beginning, waiting to be created.

There is some magic in this film. If most films are like novels, this is a poem. All of the fluff is sheared away leaving only what is required. The inner seed of a love story, the romance between two lovers. A microscope is placed upon the smirk of a lip, the drop of an eye, the flush of skin.

This is the encapsulation of the magic of love, and nothing more. We don't see the rest, the mundanity, the life of the people, the flame reduced to a flicker. Their love is frozen as a roaring fire and etched in their hearts to carry with them forever, never knowing what could have been.
