the real twist of Old is that nearly 22 years later M. Night Shyamalan is still making films, his way, and they still fucking rock. At its core Old is his rendition of something that'd be on The Twilight Zone, but it's truly so much more, and is more ingenious than you could imagine. It's the most fun I've had in a theater in a very long time, and I can't wait to show this to people who go in blind (yes, it's one of those movies).

an introspective, confounding, and impassioned masterpiece. it's hilarious, oddly comforting, but filled with melancholy all at once. my favorite coming of age film. taraji p. henson is fantastic.

I saw the references, I recognized them, and I appreciated that they put something in the movie that I've seen before.

  • Pig

it's hard to believe that this is Sarnoski's first feature film. Pig is alot of things, but at its core it's an odd (in a charming way) yet tenebrous odyssey that delves into loss and the feeling of despondency. however, it's nowhere near being a hopeless film, and it's no easy task to pull off what Sarnoski does here. cage turns in what may be his best performance in a very long time, and adam arkin and alex wolff do great work here as well. I'm still really surprised by this one.
