The plan was to watch the extended director's cut, however we were unable to find it, so this is just a rewatch of the original 3 hour and 49 minute version i first saw nearly 30 years ago.
It is truly an excellent film, it is probably my favorite Leone film, because I am way more interested in prohibition gangsters than I am westerns. Most movies that are long like this, I feel are too ling and could be edited down, however that is not the case here. Nearly 4 hours and I cannot think of a single thing that should be edited out. The pacing just keeps the film going, so there is no drag, the time just flies by. Fair warning there are things in this movie that may bot be easy for people to watch, whether it's rape or violence, it is not something for everyone. But there is reason for it, these characters are there to show you what these people were like, not for you to like or sympathize with.
It is an excellent film that is 5 stars in all the major categories of acting, writing, directing, and especially in an incredible score.
