Now this is how you make a fucking monster movie. I came to see this movie because I wanted to see Kong fuck shit up and he indeed fucks shit up!
Kong: Skull Island is a whole lot of fun. It's a very well crafted film. The post Vietnam War setting works great. The special effects are superb. Fantastic usage of CGI; all of the creatures are very detailed and look great. The aesthetics of the environment are awesome. The visuals are top-notch. There are several fantastic monster moments. Kong's final battle is dope as shit. Probably the best monster fight I've ever seen on screen.
This movie could almost be classified as a B-Movie. A really really well done B-Movie. There's a lot of cheesy moments, but it never goes full on cheese mode. John C. Reilly wields a katana. A machine gun gets mounted on a dinosaur skull. For gosh sakes Samuel L. Jackson basically wants to take on Kong by himself. There are so many silly moments, but I ate them all up. Going into this film I had heard how bad the script and writing was. After seeing the movie I really didn't think it was bad. Could it have been better? Definitely. I think the all-around solid performances kind of masked the lackluster script. I personally really enjoyed John C. Reilly and Samuel L. Jackson's characters. Both of them elevated the human portion of the film. The others could have been better, but I wouldn't say anyone was bad. Anyway, I had myself a great time with Kong: Skull Island.
