The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo ★★★½

Fincher Ranked

I may need to watch an episode of spongebob to uplift my spirits after digesting this for the past 2.5 hours. I’ve been meaning to watch this for quite some time. I had no idea it would be this dark. There were scenes in this that made me physically sick. However dark though, those scenes did not feel unnecessary.

Some scenes towards the beginning definitely could have been taken out to cut down on the run time because it got a little draggy. However, once this got going, I felt it kept a steady pace. I was constantly keeling over trying to find little nuggets in this film. Fincher is a beast when it comes to tension building. My body damn near locked up of several occasions. I felt myself holding my breathe trying not to make a sound as if I was present in a scene trying not to be sought out.  The performances in this were just stellar. Of course Rooney Mara was the standout. I’ve never seen her in anything like this and I would not have thought she could go this dark. And even though I had that thought, seeing her in this role felt natural.  I never once questioned why she was chosen for this role or thought someone else could do it better. This is her role.

I must say I found out the mystery right before it was revealed, but getting to understand the reasoning behind it was a bigger reward. This was a solid watch and like I said, I am going to have a date with spongebob now.
