Film buff in the Big Apple
For the type of film it is, this is a classic. Low budget horror flick of a twisted family that butcher total strangers to feed their hunger for inflicting death. Tobe Hopper’s directing of one of the first films in this horror genre was a pioneer to later film franchises like Halloween and A Nightmare on Elm Street And was before it’s time in 1974. Have not seen the remakes but when I first saw this film at age 11, it scared the fuck out of me and still holds pretty well 46 years later.
Am a huge fan of Spike Lee’s and was eager to see his latest film. What I liked about this film was the footage of the Civil Rights movement and of the Vietnam war as the backdrop and how this story illuminated the atrocities of War and how unequal it was on the poor and of people of color.
