    I have no idea how to feel about this movie! I had a really great time watching it, though I think less and less over time as the scope of possibilities narrowed.

    There were quite a few truly new elements and I liked almost all of them! I wasn’t as satisfied with the returning old elements, and overall I wish there’d been more balance in integrating the different pieces so that it’s not The Next Generation bookended by Neo Time.

    Somewhat incoherent, but as an exercise in style it's incredible. I actually found myself bored by the halfway point — one can only sit around moping in New Orleans mansions for so long — so I was grateful for the move to Paris, with new sets and characters and conflicts.

    Yeah, this movie is good, actually. Two weirdo siblings accidentally made the biggest hit of the millennium and then got carte blanche to follow it up — with all of the freedom, and resources, and pressure that implies. 

    It’s not flawless — Niobe and her ship shouldn’t disappear from the story at the climax, some of the CGI looks a little dated now (18 years later!), some of the action scenes last well beyond the point of communicating story ideas…
