    I've never read Stephen King's book upon which these movies are based, but from what I've absorbed through the grapevine and discussions about the material, adapting it would prove to be a very difficult challenge. Surprisingly, 2017's Chapter 1 handled the material well and produced a story that was succinct yet fairly nuanced, made more compelling by a cast of well acted and likable children, whose individual fears drove the horror close to home.
