    Heart of Glass

I've been curious to discover Herzog's cinema since quite a while now. "Heart of Glass (Herz aus Glas)" certainly isn't the easiest entry to start with. I'd have chosen more representative and popular works, but someone expressly recommended this one to me.

Risky bet, that turned out well, in the end.

Set in the XIXth century, the story revolves around a rural community, living from their glassblowing factory, known for producing a ruby-glass as mysterious as it is coveted. Unfortunately,…

Pastoral: To Die in the Country

“If one isn't freed from one's own memory, then one isn't really free.”

Shūji Terayama was quite a character. My only experience with his cinematic iterations prior to “Pastoral – To Die in the Country (田園に死す)” was the controversial “Emperor Tomato Ketchup (トマトケチャップ皇帝)”. Nobody knows for sure if "Guinea Pig 6 – Mermaid in a Manhole (ギニーピッグ6 マンホールの中の人魚)" really is the last episode, or just the fourth one… or maybe the fifth ? Considering how underground the distribution was, various sources online disagree about its release date. It would be way too long to describe how messy the whole thing is. As far as I'm concerned, I consider Letterboxd's order to be the most coherent.

    Once again, the movie follows…

Guinea Pig 2: Flower of Flesh and Blood

Do you want to dive a bit deeper into viciousness ? The first one wasn't enough, right ? Or, are you just here to check what people think of the most popular entry in the "Guinea Pig" series, before giving it a watch by yourself ?

"Guinea Pig 2: Flower of Flesh and Blood (ギニーピッグ2 血肉の華)" is arguably a better film than "Devil's Experiment", but we're still in edgelords territories if you ask me. Improving an efficient, yet flawed formula,…
