  I really didn't hate this one, despite the narrative that this movie proves how the DCEU was doomed to failure. It wasn't as thematically incoherent or ponderous as either Black Adam or Batman v. Superman. I dunno, sometimes I feel like adult superhero movie audiences really resent any of these movies that tries to work for kids.

  I'm not sure why I don't trust McDonagh to only be talking about the metaphor he's clearly spelling out in the movie. I spent a while convincing myself there was something more to In Bruges than the purgatory angle. And there is, but McDonagh really doesn't want you to forget about the purgatory angle.   The Matrix Resurrections is self-inoculated against some of its criticisms with a couple of rhetorical arguments:

  * Warner Bros. was going to do this one way or another. There's nothing we can do to stop it. So at least we could try to confront it.
