the way that you see that he doesn't get validation he needs from his family at the dinner party scene, and you can see that he probably hasn't had that for the majority of his life from his family. you can see how much fletchers praise and being validated means to him. you can see the way he loses himself because all he wants to do is for someone to validate him in saying that he's good at drumming, that he's great at drumming, that he will be one of the greats.
