Peter Burt’s review published on Letterboxd:
Well that was nice! I’m a big Scream fan so I feel super lucky to have seen this at the cinema. I smiled widely, I cringed at the gnarly violence, and I nearly cried.
The filmmakers effectively apply Scream’s signature meta commentary on the horror genre to modern times, complete with fun explorations on requels, ‘elevated horror’, and toxic fandom. It’s a super fun slasher on its own, but extra rewarding for those who love these movies.
It does a wonderful job at making us care for these new batch of characters, and it was great seeing the legacy characters return, even if I felt a couple of them could have been better utilised.
This is gonna fit nicely into a franchise rewatch. As for the ranking, I think I’ll go: 1 > 2 > 5 > 4 > 3
5 and 4 are real close and could easily switch
