Where do I even begin with a movie whose own title is untrue? Oh... I guess I can begin with exactly that. Okay, let's do it.

La Dolce Vita (The Sweet Life) is as sweet as the American Dream - utterly bitter; but for one to taste its bitterness, one has to take a bite. This is a movie with a fake title. In fact, almost everything in La Dolce Vita is fake. This film isn't about the epic encounters…

    ★★★★★

Persona is certainly one of the most enigmatic and profound films ever made, and it’s one of my favorites.

I don’t know what planet I was on when I said that the first hour of this movie isn’t that engaging. It’s one of the craziest, most tension-filled hours I have ever experienced. And it’s all driven by dialogue, acting and visuals - all of which are superb. This, to me, is where Bergman jumped to another level as a filmmaker…

    ★★★★½

In 1952, what we know as the Cold War was in its first years, but the real cold war began with The Flavor of Green Tea Over Rice’s first frame.

I say that because it’s exactly what this couple’s relationship feels like - I believe you took notice of the words “couple” and “relationship”; and, well, that’s exactly the type of story that I love -, and see it unfold is amazing.

The great thing about Ozu’s films is that…

    Early Summer

    ★★★★½

How cool is it to have two movies that are named Late Spring and Early Summer? I'll tell you: too cool!

Ozu is always improving. I don't like this one as much as Late Spring, but it certainly has more flourish and ambition - his mise-en-scène wasn't was good before. Primarily, his use of the shoji stands out. He was used them well earlier, but never this seamlessly. Every shot is layered, every element is carefully placed and replaced.

One of the best trilogies of all time. By themselves, each installment serves as a great film. Together, they form one of the most important pieces of art cinema has ever produced.

Look, let me begin by sayingIi love musicals and I can certainly let myself enjoy something without analyzing it critically, but... this, in my eyes, was a complete and utter disaster.

I’m sorry James Corden, but I don’t want to see you in musicals anymore.

This movie just screams “WE MADE THIS WITH NO ARTISTIC GOALS AND JUST STRAIGHT UP SHOVED IN STUPID AND UNLIKABLE CHARACTERS TO SAY THAT WE HAVE A DIVERSE CAST AND A STORY THAT SPEAKS TO…
