  Great doc but I'm not here to talk about that

  I took a long ass break from letterboxd cause I was taking it, and myself, too seriously and I had a burnout (actually I had many since I last posted on here). I just went back and logged the films I remember seeing during that time, and I'm gonna try and get back to logging stuff I watch going forward. From now on though this account will be pure chaotic energy. No more structure. No more obsessively ranked lists of everything. No more tags. Just unfiltered thoughts on the stuff I watch.

  Excellent film!!!!!!!!! It's not quite a documentary, but it feels like a documentary? Like in the best way possible. Go watch the panel discussion I moderated featuring the director of this film and the authors of an upcoming book on trans rep in cinema. We talk about the film, and about trans representation in cinema more generally.

  I hadn't seen psycho since well before I realized I was trans. I remembered the whole thing about Norman impersonating his mother and how it kind of began the whole man in a dress / "tr*nny" murderer trope, which is bad enough on its own. I did not however remember how directly, outwardly transphobic the ending was.....   Queer cinema month (13/20)

  The first hour and a bit of this and the last 20 minutes to me felt almost like 2 different movies. The first portion is really adorable, with a very open and optimistic view of gender variance in a young child. It also was one of the sweetest portrayals of sibling love I've ever seen.
