    Second time watching this, first time on big screen.

    - it's absolutely visually incoherent: like seriously, try make sense of any sequence in the second half and you'll see what I mean, it's fucking baffling

    - it spends way too much time establishing bullshit nobody really cares about and way too little time expunging its best concepts (the visual incoherence does not help here)

    Samurais (and a code of honour only an elite could love), hip hop, ice cream, Felix the Cat, carrier pigeons have been extinct since 1914 but hey they're here too. This movie was released in 1999 and that's really the most salient fact, the thematic exploration of cultures lost, fading, refusing to collapse, somehow surviving in a changing world, this all makes more sense if you view it with the question of what we'll all be as we shift from one millennium to the next.

    Hyper stylized and very meditative, and of course the soundtrack is incredible. Very much worthwhile.

    Lana Wachowski really took Baudrillard to heart, huh.

    You know I was really amped for this movie, and whilst I kinda expected it to be an incoherent shameless nostalgia cash grab, I'm genuinely astounded that it managed to commit the cardinal sin of just being boring.

    Ah well, the 10/10 trailer will forever live on in my heart at least.
