Theres something really unique about spike. In the movies I’ve seen he always tries to include every viewpoint from an event. Here nearly everyone who gets ignored in movies about Vietnam is highlighted. Black Americans fighting in the war, the French who were aware of it and the people of Vietnam. I see reasoning for every subplot in this film as they all moved to show why this movie needed to exist. This movie was disjointed and moved oddly, but after seeing movies like apocalypse now i know that’s the point.
War is hell and it ruins the lives of everyone involved and their families too. Black Americans fought for this country and returned beaten down from what they endured to a place that refuses to see them as human. huh.
We don't need to escalate
You see, war is not the answer
For only love can conquer hate
You know we've got to find a way
To bring some loving here today
