A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors

A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors ★★★★★

Nothing like peeping a pristine print of Dream Warriors in a theater to notice these cinewonders:

Zsa Zsa Gabor’s distorted death wails echoing in an insane asylum TV room.

Kincaid saying “cool” after Nancy and Kristen kiss him on both cheeks.

Freddy’s glove is truly perverse. You can see glee flash across his face as he personally sinks his knife fingers deep into a teen’s chest until life seeps out of their eyes. He’s not wielding a machete like Jason or a kitchen knife like Michael, but something his burnt ass can really FEEL as he takes a life. Whatta sick child slaying FREAK.

I do miss the bone deep familial rot of the Wes Craven original, but Dream Warriors makes up for primal dread with extravagant dream fantasy set pieces. A very ‘80s sequel that goes bigger and more comic book broad with an initial nightmare premise. But it works! If only everyone had a therapist as caring and real as Nancy!
