    Like most of Edgar Wright's filmography, the looks and sounds here are crackerjack. Anya Taylor Joy (mean muggin' cheesily and looking like a star) and Thomasin McKenzie (consistently intriguing) are the film's fuel as slowly morphing doppelgangers. The rest of the cast, filled with BBC genre mainstays are also A+. The movie's mixed messaging on women empowerment is a befuddled misstep.

    Tick, Tick . . . Boom! is a strong directorial debut from Lin Manuel Miranda that I was fully on board with for 70% of its running time.

    Using the framing device of a musical workshop to present and ignite most of the musical numbers (whether in "real" life" or in the head of the characters) is innovative and makes the innate cheesiness of musical theatre films about musical theatre more digestible.
