Whoa now.... I was warned that I'd either love this or hate this. The predicted polarizing effect of The Master was really worrying me. But there was no need. I thoroughly enjoyed the film, even though I didn't truly understand what was happening every moment of the way through. Then again, Phoenix' character Freddy was pretty baffled, too... and maybe the intent of the movie was to put the viewer in his shoes. Phoenix was excellent in what may be his best role ever. Phil was pretty cool, too, especially during his musical moments. The story was odd yet captivating. The cast was first-rate, delivering very natural and believable performances. A solid and entrancing movie which should never have been passed over for even a nomination for Best Picture at the Oscars. Beats Argo out of the water, in my opinion.
And without spoiling anything, I'll just say that the highlight of The Master was the sex scene on the beach. Nothing like a little sand in the goolies to keep a man virile.
