A film full of life, love and passion; earnestly diving headfirst into these character's insecurities and pain to hilarious, moving and engaging effect. I love the way this looks, how it's ultra-colorful characters and settings engage with one another, how Gunn's direction switches so deftly between emotion, spectacle and comedy. Guardians 2 is far from perfect, but it's one of those movies that tries so damn hard to entertain at every moment, cerebral or otherwise. The emotion feels true, the characters are given loads of depth, and this universe lives on bigger and brighter than ever. I loved how some of the songs actually mattered, intrinsically tied to the rhythms, content and themes of whatever scene they played over. Per usual, the soundtrack Gunn assembled fucks, the humor mostly lands and the movie easily surpasses it's predecessor in most every way. Pretty much everything I could hope for as both a geek and as a moviegoer.
