From Dusk Till Dawn

From Dusk Till Dawn ★★★★½

Ultra-violent, perverse, indulgent and repulsive, From Dusk Till Dawn is a brilliant blend of razor-sharp dialogue, deliciously gory effects and a stellar leading cast having a blast with their roles. I've never been a champion for B-movies, as I can count the ones I have enjoyed on one hand. What separates this film from the countless others is the notably artistic hands that brought it to the screen, mostly in Tarantino's script (that he apparently wrote for $1500) and Rodriguez's visual flairs. The genre twist mid-way through is fantastic, transitioning from the wide-open canvass of the Texan wilderness to a secluded, isolated tavern that embodies the "hive of scum and villainy" tag Obi-Wan dubbed the Mos Eisley cantina with. It's repulsive and disgusting, but exactly where Tarantino and Clooney belong.

It's pointless to ramble on, From Dusk Till Dawn is simply a fucking great time. It's clearly a film with boundless enthusiasm behind it's creation, and an incredibly well-realized work of art. Every stylistic touch is essential to building this hellish world, and every campy line of dialogue delivered feels vital to the story being told.

*If you have ever wondered if Tarantino has a foot fetish (and let's be honest, we all have), this film will finally answer that question too.

Highly recommended!
