  • Don't Worry Darling

    Don't Worry Darling 2022

    Carlos Magalhães

★★½ Watched by Carlos Magalhães 13 Nov 2022

For what looks like a cross between The Twilight Zone, The Firm and The Stepford Wives, this movie may have an intriguing first act, but it doesn’t take a genius to soon figure out what is going on, since it’s quite predictable with its messy plot and dim-witted protagonist.

A promising premise and well-built tension are herein sullied by an attempt to shoehorn a zeitgeist theme into an otherwise unrelated story. - ►

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

To be frank, I find the rave reviews this has garnered to be utterly confounding. So - this physically elderly couple (played by two actors under layers of desperately fake-looking makeup) manage to pick off a bunch of evidently able-bodied young porn stars. One of them has a heart condition yet still manages to blow someone away with a noisy shotgun and chop another's fingers off with repeated axe swings!

How is this even remotely convincing to anyone?

    Sure, there…

Never in a million years did I see myself loving a Fletch movie.

Today marks the five-year anniversary of me joining Letterboxd so it only makes sense that I watched something that makes me question how much of my life I have spent watching movies. Nonetheless, thank you for following me on this journey and please know that I appreciate the connection we share, no matter how small.

One of the most exploitative films I’ve seen in years.
    Marilyn Monroe deserved better.
    Norma Jeane deserved better.
Ana de Armas's performance deserved better.

what’s the matter, don’t you want to be on tv?

The most quietly haunting scene in this film for me  is jupe recounting the gordy’s home incident to oj and emerald through an snl sketch which exploited the tragedy for laughs. The cut to his younger self watching the incident, traumatised, in contrast to present day him excitedly telling the story showing how his desire for spectacle has corrupted him. He never realises that, just like gordy, he was chewed…
