This the first movie I’ve turned off midway through in a long, LONG, time. It’s a generic piece of trash that’s not worth a single second of the time it takes to slog through it. It also has a hugely unnecessary scene of dinosaurs running themselves off of a cliff into a certain death and later a Brachiosaurus being burned alive by lava. This is torture porn garbage.
Anchored by impressive effects, a unique premise, and a fully committed performance by the late Debbie Reynolds, Halloweentown is a shockingly well-made and thorough made-for-cable Halloween movie. It is without question that Miloš Forman's 1975 drama One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest is a classic piece of American filmmaking. If the thought of Adam Sandler portraying someone with a near inaudible mutter that's fanatical about safety during Halloween gets your goat, Hubie Halloween is just the film for you. If you're like me and prefer your Adam Sandler roles with a modicum of effort added to it, you, too, will see this movie as another boring, useless Happy Madison work.
