God damn.. this is an impressive feat. I’ve been on an Akira Kurosawa binge lately and “Seven Samurai” is the best I’ve seen so far. The story is about a village who fears another raid from 40 bandits that have terrorized them, and so they hire 7 samurais to protect them. Such a simple concept, done with so much style, class and astonishing set design with tons of extras (who are all fantastic). It should also be noted that the cinematography and tracking shots were very impressive all the way through and so many frames in this film could be a painting. Takashi Shimura and Toshiro Mifune give some of the greatest performances I’ve ever seen. If you love samurai films, this defines the genre.
