Paul D’s review published on Letterboxd:
It's been 45 years since this film was made and Roald Dahl sent out the warning to the world of the perils that face us if we're not careful and yet those warnings in the shape of these horrible, horrible children have not been heeded. Actually things are worse than ever.
And standing at the top of the heap, most monstrous of all is Veruca Salt. She is deeply unpleasant, incredibly spoiled and consequently demanding, she wants anything and everything and she wants it right now, she is impetuous and greedy and absolutely will not take no for an answer.
Imagine if someone like that was allowed to grow up without having been taught a lesson, imagine someone like that being given everything they could ever want, imagine someone like that who got the one and only Golden Ticket.
Luckily that would never happen. Luckily people would see that person for what they are and would never ever place them in any kind of position of power. Thank goodness for that.
