“I know it was you, Fredo. You broke my heart. You broke my heart!”
If you thought my some of my opinions about the original Godfather were pretty hot, The Godfather Part II has to be one of my hottest takes yet. This movie is loved, it has one of the highest rating on Letterboxd and I can’t understand how or why. I started watching this movie on October 11 and finished the last hour of the film nine days later. I just had no motivation to finish because it was just such a snooze fest for me. There was no story that I was hooked into or wanting to keep watching. I think Al Pacino puts in a great performance and is menacing at times. Robert De Niro is good as well but at the end of the day, the flashbacks don’t add anything for me. They didn’t add anything to Vito’s character that made me like him any better. And to top it all off, it’s still unnecessary long. Maybe one day I’ll come back to this and my opinion will change, but I don’t see that happening for a long time. But for now, throw this is the category of, well produced movie I don’t enjoy.
Overall Rating: B-
