A very funny and unhinged debut European "original" film from Amazon (really they co-produced the film but who's counting?). Each story is entertaining and madcap in its own way and there is a coherent surreal comic tone throughout. The second two ("Ayoub's Birthday" and "The Excuse") go better together than the first ("The Man of the Beach"), but all work in self-contained ways. There is a whiff of homophobia in one and some dicey racial politics in the second, but these caricatures fit into the grotesque quality of the film as a whole. And the epilogue removes doubt about the racism anyway. Very enjoyable movie and it's a shame it ended up going straight to streaming in Spain, damn you covid!
