Soundtrack Spotlight: Meredith Quill’s Complete Awesome Mix

April 2020 was a dark time. COVID spread across the world, lives and jobs were lost, and people adapted to a “new normal” of mask-wearing and staying home. Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn thought people could use something uplifting, so he gave us Meredith Quill’s Complete Awesome Mix.

Gunn wrote: "Part of the master list of Meredith Quill's favorite songs I considered for the soundtracks of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol's 1 and 2. I'm not promising I won't use these in future films, but we could all use some joyousness during our time in quarantine."

And with that 64 more songs came from Star-Lord’s mom’s cassette collection to our ears. It has hits like “She’s Gone” by Hall & Oates and “Heart of Glass” by Blondie, as well as lesser-known tunes like Big Star’s “Back of a Car” and T. Rex’s “Spaceball Ricochet.”  And, best of all, every song is better than the David Hasselhoff track on Awesome Mix Vol. 2!

And, so far, that is the complete collection of Guardians soundtracks. I hope you’ve enjoyed this tour through the Awesome, Cosmic mixes, and we’ll be back with new soundtracks in future IN FOCUS newsletters!
