The Killer 2023
An exercise in monotony, removed of tedium, aided by the relatively brisk pacing and well, borderline self-parody of Fincher's craft. In a film so ridiculous, mythologising and smug about everything, the rather disappointing ending dampens the efforts to elevate the middling material. I realise the thematic reasoning behind the decision and the practical rationale, but then why bother building up to it anyway? The Black Phone 2021
Looks great for the type of horror film it is but it didn't get weird enough or [literally anything] enough. Waiting to see Derrickson finally hit a home run. Hawke's performance is great but he doesn't have enough material to work with honestly.
