My Brother's Wedding

My Brother's Wedding ★★★★

Is your brother retarded? No, he's just ghettoized.

Family drama about a young man torn between loyalty to his friends and family responsibility. His ambivalence, a consequence of his emotional attachment. A sensitive depiction of the social schizophrenia under capitalism.

The film is praised by white intellectuals for not glamorizing violence in the black ghetto. But there is a more forceful violence in the psychological state of the protagonist. His love hurts and isolates him. Only cinema makes his pain visible.
