Violating the unwritten social contract as bloody warfare and weaponizing the blurred lines of politeness and respectability can be terrifying. If only the film could’ve been made by someone who actually loves the horror genre and with enough talent or wit to successfully synthesize these elements. It takes a lot to deliver nastiness and sadism with a sharp bite, and Speak No Evil is about as toothless and pointlessly self-righteous as anything from Adam McKay.
