Maybe it's because this is the first time I've been to a movie theater since December of 2019, but this was pretty awesome. I really didn't know what to expect going into this since I'm indifferent to the Purge series as a whole. The unabashed exposition is the thing about this film that I disliked the most, easily. It's not like the commentary itself is bad, in fact it's quite the opposite. There was just no subtlety, and it was kind of cringe-inducing in some scenes.
I really enjoyed the action in this one, and its actually more action-oriented than anything else. Kind of made me forget that the 2013 film was a horror movie. Still, I wouldn't consider myself a huge fan of the franchise or anything, but these films get way too much shit when the reality is, they're not the worst thing ever. If you think otherwise, you probably haven't seen actual shitty movies. Anyway, this was a pretty solid return to the theater and a respectable entry to the Purge series. Watched with some friends.
