This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

As far as 4th entries of Keanu Reeves action franchises go, JW4 is as exhilarating as Matrix 4 was limp and tedious.

With a story as a rest stop between shootouts, 4 keeps you invested even as you know you're watching an ultraviolent cartoon. After 4 movies, you're surprised at how much you care about the core characters, even if it is superficially.

I'd look forward to a 5th one, but at almost 3 hours JW4 does suffer from some…

Mildly enjoyable if stilted detective noir.

Wanted a mindless genre picture after back-to-back surgeries (one of them LIVED!) and put this one since Liam Neeson taught me some Irish slang when he played a Russian on the set of K19 The Widowmaker.

The mystery itself is convoluted but intriguing but the narrative is bogged down by scene-by-scene exposition dumps.

Everyone plays the noir roles adequately enough, especially Jessica Lange still channeling Joan Crawford from feud.

    Two hours not wasted, but…

One of the most fucked-up (yet realistic) love stories yo be put on film that doesn't involve marsupials.

Feels like it's going to be a murder mystery then turns into something deeper, which makes the ending more of a punch to the gut.

Bogart in one of this most vulnerable roles and my personal favorite of the Bogart/Nicholas Ray collaborations.

You're so invested in the characters you almost don't care Bogey was 50 and Gloria Grahame was 27 #gross but…

A life-sappingly boring horror/police procedural that makes you wonder what's happening in Christian Bale's life that he did this and Thor: Love and Thunder in the same year.

Blink if you're under duress, Christian Bale.

This movie took 91-year old Robert Duvall out of bed. W...t...f.

    My birthday movie...

Superior to the feature length music video of an original in nearly every way except applied body oil possibly.

An emotionally resonant sequel that will make you wish more movies took 30 plus years to release their sequels.
