Shame ★★★★

"We're not bad people. We just come from a bad place."

In Shame, our protagonist, Brandon is difficult to understand because he has difficulty opening up even to himself. This is in contrast with his extrovert sister Sissy whose sudden reappearance in his life throws him off for better or for worse. Brandon is a sex addict and it seems to be his only defining characteristic but he is more complicated than that. Both he and sister seem to have share a complicated history but the film makes no attempt to divulge any secrets that might exist. It's a difficult film to watch but it's amazing, still. Beautifully directed and acted, and the visuals are absolutely gorgeous. Recommended (although almost everyone has seen it already).
